OPIHI Bat label

The unique geographical location of Opihi Vineyard is celebrated in the design of the Opihi label, which features the small, delicate native long tail bat. The Opihi district has one of the very few populations of native long tailed bats on the East Coast of the South Island.

Opihi vineyard supports on-going efforts to protect the long tail bat population in the area. These small night flyers are friend to the vineyard: one long tail bat can consume over 600 insects in one night, which makes them a natural insecticide.

This symbiotic relationship with the native long tail bat is representative of Opihi Vineyards on the ground practice of sustainable growing within the valley.

Since its establishment 1991/92 Opihi Vineyard has matured with a confidence grounded on the authoritative recognition the wines have earned nationally and internationally.

The Opihi label has truly come of age.
